This work was born at my first solo exhibition, in a live painting session that wove together rakugo, art, and guitar — with the rakugo storyteller Sashimi and JP's PlayRoom.
The rakugo pieces were “Jugemu” and “Shinigami (the God of Death).” Listening to these tales — one on the naming of a child, one on death — and to the tones of the guitar, I gave their melody form in color.
When I looked at the finished work, it seemed to me that it held the whole “round of living” — a human life from birth to death.
