「生まれては死ぬるなりけりおしなべて釈迦も達磨も猫も杓子も」一休咄“Born, we all die in the end — every one of us alike: Shakyamuni and Bodhidharma, cats and ladles too.” — from the tales of Ikkyū
釈迦も達磨も、誰しもが生を受けて死んでいく。
生きとし生けるもの、みんな生まれて死んでいく。
その間の生きていく様は生命力に溢れている。
この絵の中にはたくさんのチャドクガ（毛虫）が隠れている。
毛虫も獅子も誰も彼もがパワフルにそれぞれの日々を生き抜いている。
そして、みんな生まれて死んでいく。
Shakyamuni, Bodhidharma — every one of us is granted life, and dies.
All living things: we are all born, and we all pass away.
And the way we live in between overflows with life force.
Hidden throughout this painting are many tea tussock moth caterpillars.
Caterpillar and lion, each and all, lives out its own days with everything it has.
And in the end, we are all born, and we all die.
